On this day we would drive to to Eger (~1h 45min drive), visit a local elementary school, meeting a local English teacher who would introduce us to the Hungarian education system.
Eger is famous for its castle, cathedral, red wine, Baroque palaces and Turkish remains, including the northernmost minaret in Europe. Eger is the third richest city in historic monuments of Hungary. We drive to Eger and during a walking tour we visit the second largest cathedral in Hungary built in Classical style, the famous library of the Teacher’s Training College (Lyceum) and from the 53 meters high observatory tower of the building will see the whole panorama of Eger with help of a Periscope.
We walk to the famous castle of Eger that played a significant role in the Hungarian history in the 16th century, when its defenders lead by Captain Dobo had a great victory over the huge Turkish forces in a heroic struggle.
We keep walking afterwards to the northernmost Turkish minaret in Europe from the 17th century and to the main Dobo Square in the pedestrian area. We plan to have lunch at the castle.
